Run a Gladiator set and build up some combo before using Desert wind to see red crits. As with most of the responses in this thread, you can ignore duration, stack as much power .
Put Primed Toxin mod +165% instead of 60% damage and status since you are using Baruuk augment that boost status chance. Range would only increase the range of his fist strikes. Melee range only affects you physically fists, and I'm pretty sure ability range affects the waves, although you really don't need range on Desert Wind. Same reason I don't have any range mods on my Excal, he just doesn't need them.
